As default the D3100's exposure is set to Auto when recording video. Exposure may change depending on the subject and lighting conditions. In this situation, exposure can be fixed by setting AE lock (Hold), eliminating the need to hold the AE/AF lock button. Note AE-L does not work in Auto setting. 1/ Press the menu button and go to the Setup menu. 2/ Scroll down to "Buttons". 3/ Choose "AE-L/AF-L button". 4/ Choose "AE lock (hold)" and press OK button.
